Allison Kennedy, of Burke, died on May 10, according to her obituary. She is survived by her two sons, Kit, 2 years old, Cal, 3 months, and loving husband, Brian.

More than $73,000 had been raised on a GoFundMe for the family as of Thursday, May 25.

Born in California and raised in Washington, Allison graduated from Washington State University in 2010 and earned her master's degree from American University in 2014. There, she fell in love with Washington DC and her would-be husband, her obituary says.

Allison worked as a lobbyist for Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, promoting her safer transportation policies, some of which were adopted, her obituary says.

Tributes and condolences poured in on the GoFundMe page.

"I worked with Allison consistently for years," one person said. "She was a relentless advocate for making our streets a safer place for all. Even though we were often in agreement, she always pushed our office to do more. Congress is going to miss such an impactful person."

"Brian, we are weeping with you," another said. "We are covering you and your sweet boys in prayer. We are here for you."
